IFI Horrorthon 2015

Source: Horrorthon.com

Kicking off today at the Irish Film Institute is a five-day Horror-fest, or rather the 18th annual Horrorthon - bringing to Dublin "the best of new Irish and international work in a programme sure to satisfy casual viewers and hardcore devotees alike."

The film festival full of frightful treats for the Halloween season will not only showcase new (and hotly anticipated) films, but pay tribute to some of the classics and masters of the genre.

Horrorthon Honours celebrates iconic figures from the Horror world - last year they paid tribute to Vincent Price, and this year the spotlight is on the late, great Christopher Lee who starred in many (and some of the greatest) horror films throughout his career - with screenings of The Hound Of The Baskervilles on 35mm (Friday 23rd, 1pm) and Dracula A.D. 1972 (Monday 26th, 5pm).

The festival will also pay tribute to the late directorial genius of the genre - Wes Craven - (and let's be honest, an overall creative genius and legend) - showing a back-to-back screening of two of his classics The Serpent and the Rainbow and The People Under The Stairs from 11pm on Friday 23rd, as well as another of his genre-defining (or rather redefining) movies - and my personal favourite - Scream at 11pm on Saturday 24th.

SPECIAL GUESTS throughout the festival will include;

Director Richard Stanley - introducing his two features - Dust Devil (Friday 23rd, 4.45pm) and Hardware (Monday 26th, 2.50pm) - both followed by a Q&A session, as well as presenting a selection of his rarely shown shorts (Sunday 25th, 1pm).
