One of the main symptoms of patients of Kidney Disease is constantly feeling cold all year round.  The #‎WrapUpWarmForKidneyDisease‬ campaign aims to highlight this by asking people to take a selfie in your winter woolies to raise awareness of Kidney Disease.




The campaign was set up by members of a Women's Renal Support Group in August 2014, as they believe not enough is being done to spread awareness of Kidney Disease.  This year, the campaign began on Saturday October 17th and runs until October 31st.

As this is a cause very close to my own heart, I would urge as many people as possible to please get involved.  My boyfriend was diagnosed with Kidney Disease a few years ago, and thankfully received a transplant from his brother last year, but this is merely a treatment, not a cure.

It's amazing seeing how organ donation and transplants can give someone a new lease on life, but for those still waiting for this chance, they still have to go through a lot.  We take our kidney's for granted, and you'd be amazed at the impact they have on how our whole body functions.  (See photo above and link to more info below) 

While he was sick, it could be in the middle of a heatwave and my boyfriend would be dressed in countless layers to try and keep warm, so I think this is a great campaign to highlight one of the symptoms and hopefully educate people about the disease.

What To Do

Wrap up in layers aplenty and post your selfie with the hashtag #‎WrapUpWarmForKidneyDisease‬ to Twitter and/or Facebook, and make sure to post it to the Wrap Up Warm Facebook page, too! Feel free to nominate friends to join in.

In addition to posting your snuggly selfie, people in Ireland can also text 'KIDNEY' to 50300 to donate €2 to the Irish Kidney Association, for which I can vouch is a truly great charity!
