90's Horror Halloween Party at The Light House Cinema

As part of their 90's Horror Season, the Light House cinema in Smithfield, Dublin 7 are hosting a 90's-themed Halloween party this Saturday 31st October from 8pm.

Cinema-goers are encouraged to dress up as their favourite 90's Horror icon (e.g. Hannibal Lecter, Ghostface) OR to get creative and dress up as a Horror-influenced 90's character (e.g. Zombie Chandler from Friends - 'Could I BE any more dead?')

The night will kick off with aptly named signature cocktails (such as The Drew Berrymoore and The Candyman-Candyman-Candyman-Candyman-Candyman - pictured below) in the bar, which will be 'pumping a soundtrack of your favourite 90's tunes'.  There will also be some 'fun and games in relation to Wes Craven's classic genre-bending slasher Scream.'

You'll then have to choose which 90's Horror classic you would like to see on the night; Scream 1 AND 2 (9.30pm) in a double feature (for only €10, too) - in honour of the late legend of the genre, Wes Craven; Silence of the Lambs (10pm) or Hocus Pocus (10.30pm).

The 90's Horror Halloween Party marks the end of the 90's Horror Season at the Light House;

'The nineties was a time of change for the horror genre, the decade that brought us the only horror film to ever win the Best Picture Oscar (Silence of the Lambs) and popularised both the so-called "ironic slasher" (Scream) and the found footage horror (The Blair Witch Project) which, for better or worse, turned the genre on its head. This Halloween, we've decided to bring you some of our favourites from that decade, culminating in a party on Halloween night celebrating Wes Craven's Scream.'

The 90's Horror Season line-up begins tonight, and is as follows:

  • The Blair Witch Project (Wednesday 28th, 8.30pm)

  • Wes Craven's New Nightmare (Thursday 29th, 8.30pm
One of my personal favourites from the Nightmare on Elm Street series as it really showcases the creative genius of Craven's mind both in direction and incredibly clever storytelling - he both wrote, directed and starred in this totally different and unique take on the series he created.  There are not enough words to describe my love for and admiration of how he did this.  This is a must-see for any fans of both Craven and the Nightmare on Elm Street series in general.

  • Candyman (Friday 30th, 8.30pm)

  • Hocus Pocus (Saturday 31st, 3pm & 10.30pm)
A Halloween tradition for all ages.  With two screening times there's no excuse to miss your chance to go out and see this classic on the big screen before or after your Halloween festivities - after all, it's the night to run amok... Amok, Amok, Amok!

  • Scream 1 & 2 Double Bill (Saturday 31st, 9.30pm
I really don't need to go on another little rant about how much I love Wes Craven, but he redefined the Horror/Slasher genre with this series, and he did so brilliantly.  My all-time favourites of his work.

  • Silence of the Lambs (Saturday 31st, 10pm)
